The Global Fund for Women:
 Is a nonprofit grant making foundation that advances women's human rights worldwide.
 provides grants to women-led organizations that promote the economic security, health, safety, education and leadership of women and girls.

Ties to the Philanthropic Sector:
 Women around the world face a variety of obstacles
 70% of the 855,000,000 illiterate people in the world are women.
 In many countries today, women lack the rights to vote, own land, or demand fair treatment.
 Domestic violence is still the leading cause of death for women across the globe
 Provides small, flexible grants to organizations based on the importance of their programs from $500 to $2000
 Functions as a non-endowment charity relying on the contributions of individuals, foundations, and corporations to meet its annual budget, such as:
o Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
o John D. and Catherine T. McArthur Foundation

 Since 1987, they have awarded more than $52 million to 3,200 women's organizations in 163 countries addressing:
o Ending Gender-Based Violence and Building Peace
o Ensuring Economic and Environmental Justice
o Advancing Health and Sexual and Reproductive Rights
o Expanding Civic and Political Participation
o Increasing Access to Education
o Fostering Social Change Philanthropy

 Does not give grants to organizations in the US, but funds orgs in developing countries to help them grow and meet the needs of women in their communities
 In addition to grant-making, they are an international network of men and women committed to women’s rights – i.e. they provide newsletters and other resources about women’s issues & sponsor learning events
